State Department Limits Nonimmigrant Visa Appointments to Applicant’s Country of Nationality or Residence

On September 6, 2025, the U.S. Department of State (DOS) announced that effectively immediately, applicants for nonimmigrant visas will only be able to schedule visa interview appointments at U.S. Embassies or Consulates in their country of nationality or residence.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate residence in the country where they are applying if they are applying at a consulate that is not in their country of nationality.

For nationals of countries where the U.S. government is not conducting nonimmigrant visa operations, the DOS has designated specific third country locations where individuals should apply depending on their country of nationality.  Please see the official announcement for a complete list.
